A DATED FIELD GUIDE TO THE AI ECONOMY

See where AI adoption is real.

Follow the signals from paid software use to chips, data centers, and the money financing the buildout.

FOLLOW THE VALUE CHAIN

Seven lenses on one landscape.

Signals are grouped by what they tell us. The views connect, but each describes a different part of the landscape.

READ THE SIGNALS IN CONTEXT

Useful when each chart answers a different question.

These diagrams explain the framework. Each is labeled illustrative or framework; none is a reported time series.

01 / USAGEILLUSTRATIVE

Is AI becoming a paid habit?

Usage can rise before recurring spend. Both matter, and they answer different questions.

TAKEAWAY

Reach and monetization should be read side by side.

02 / VALUE CHAINILLUSTRATIVE

Where is the pressure building?

Price and capacity can reveal bottlenecks before they show up as end-user adoption.

TAKEAWAY

Infrastructure signals describe constraints, not customer adoption.

03 / COVERAGEFRAMEWORK

How much history is behind a signal?

New indicators enter as history accumulates. Coverage and confidence remain visible.

TAKEAWAY

A newer indicator can be useful while its history is still short.

04 / METHODFRAMEWORK

Many inputs. No single adoption score.

Company and market evidence flows through a consistent chain so readers can see how an observation becomes a group-level view.

TAKEAWAY

Signals can move together without proving one caused another.

A TRANSPARENT METHOD

Trace each view back to its inputs.

Atomic series are adjusted for AI relevance, rolled into indicators, then grouped into subgroups and the seven views. Combination rules preserve consistent units and show how much input coverage supports a result.

Explore the calculation notes
Calculation notesAI-share estimates, weighting, coverage, and interpretation

AI share is an estimate

Where a company or series spans multiple activities, the method estimates the portion associated with AI. This is the largest source of uncertainty and is reviewed as an explicit assumption.

Weights measure signal quality

Weights reflect coverage and weighted signal-to-noise reliability. They are not company market share or a measure of commercial importance.

Combination rules preserve comparability

Series are brought to consistent currency and units before each valid input contributes value × estimated AI share to a sum. At least 80% of the assigned weight must be valid for a combined result to be shown.

Late reports are handled conservatively

A late series may carry forward for at most one period. Results are grouped across related signals; they do not establish causation or create a single score that proves adoption.

QUICK ANSWERS

What the radar can—and cannot—tell you.

What does AI Economy Radar track?
Seven connected views follow adoption from end-user penetration through semiconductors, data centers, upstream supply, and funding. The views organize evidence; they are not a proven causal chain.
Why use more than one indicator?
A single measure can move for reasons unrelated to broad adoption. Several distinct signals make gaps, timing differences, and input coverage visible.
How are mixed company and market inputs combined?
The method estimates each series’ AI share, normalizes currency and units, applies documented signal-quality weights, and reports a result only when at least 80% of assigned weight is valid.
Does a missing or late series count as zero?
No. Missing inputs reduce coverage; an eligible late series may carry forward for at most one period, with its age visible in the report.
Can the composite prove future growth or causation?
No. It is a structured view of observed signals, not a forecast, investment recommendation, or proof that one part of the AI economy caused another.
